We could not have designed a better vintage for our inaugural release from Meteor Vineyard: the long growing season, even maturation and moderate temperatures at harvest were perfect for flavor and color development.  Ripening continued well into October and our final block was harvested November 12 - resulting in a classic Napa Valley vintage.  Just 25 percent of the vineyard's fruit is used to craft the Meteor Vineyard Estate wines, with the balance sold to some of Napa Valley's most famous winemakers.

With wines from our three clones of Cabernet fermented separately, our challenge with the Meteor Vineyard Estate was to put together a blend that was quintessentially expressive of Meteor Vineyard. This wine emphatically fits the definition.  Deep, ripe and concentrated, it has the deep blue-red hue, vibrant red and black fruit aromas and flavors of a fully mature, single vineyard Cabernet. Velvety tannins support the fruit and the wine's outstanding classic structure and precise balance.

For the 2005 Special Family Reserve, we focused exclusively on clone 7 on St. George rootstock - so lush and concentrated that we couldn't resist bottling four barrels as a separate blend.

This powerful and vibrant wine has a violet-hued, intense color.  Its voluptuous, upfront, ripe cherry aromas and flavors are focused and precise, with the added dimension of cedar and cocoa.  Elegant oak and plush, ripe fruit tannins support the wine's classic Cabernet balance and structure.
