From the Vineyard - "The 2006 harvest was far more challenging than the 2005. An uneven bloom set during spring led to a veritable autumnal “fruit cocktail” - green berries and raisins interspersed with perfect, concentrated berries. This demanded incredible diligence from the entire vineyard team with multiple green harvests and leaf thinnings late into the season. When harvest began mid October we were confident that we produced the absolute finest fruit possible." Mike Wolf, Vineyard Manager
From the Sommelier - "I have always been a big fan of vintages like 2006. To make a great wine in a great vintage is easy, to create a great wine in a trying vintage is genius. While most properties in Napa Valley saw production levels down around 50%, the producers of the best wines recognized that they needed to gently coax the remaining fruit towards perfection. For us at Meteor the solution was multifold - diligent vineyard management, careful sorting in the field and even more diligence on the sorting table. Thank goodness we are a boutique operation; hand sorting is intensive and exhausting work! The grapes that passed the gauntlet were as perfect as Cabernet Sauvignon gets." Jason Alexander, Sommelier and General Manager
From the Winemaker – “The 2006 Meteor Vineyard Estate Special Family Reserve is deep ruby in color and offers aromas of wild black raspberry with hints of chocolate and espresso. On the palate the wine is densely packed and shapely with saturated dark fruit flavors, noteworthy dusty tannins and superb length.” Dawnine Dyer, Winemaker
