From the Vineyard Manager - "In 2007, warm spring temperatures led to early bud break with very little rainfall. The summer remained mild with few of the heat spikes typically seen and dry conditions leading to small berries of intense fruit. After a brief interlude of cool the second week of October, Indian summer prevailed, affording us plenty of time to consider the optimal moment for harvest." Mike Wolf, Vineyard Manager
From the Sommelier - "The sheer volume of notes surrounding the 2007 vintage in Napa Valley attest to the quality and consistency of the wines produced. Early bud break, low rainfall and even ripening were the norm, with tight, small berried clusters reaching perfection mid October. What crossed the sorting table was as close to perfection as Cabernet Sauvignon gets. Our first glimpse of the wines post fermentation confirmed this. We knew we had something special." Jason Alexander, Sommelier and General Manager
From the Winemaker – “The 2007 Meteor Vineyard Special Family Reserve is deep ruby blue in color with aromas of black plum, cassis and black cherries mingled with dark chocolate, clove and vanilla. The wine is simultaneously massive yet elegant, with beautiful oak integration and layered tannins ending in a long supple finish.” Dawnine Dyer, Winemaker
From the Critics - "While there is not much made, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is an exceptional wine (100 cases produced from Clone 7). Aged 22 months in 100% new French oak, the wood component is completely concealed by the cascade of dense blackberry and cassis fruit intermixed with licorice, camphor and spice box. This full-bodied, powerful, opulent wine needs 2-3 years of cellaring and should last for 25+. " Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate
"Ruby-red. Cassis, blackberry candy, licorice and violet on the very dark, slightly medicinal nose. Lush but classically dry and quite backward, with a tight core of fruit complicated by strong minerality and wild herbs. Classic cabernet sauvignon, with firm tannic spine and a long, very pure finish. Here the tannins are far more noble than those of the 2009 Perseid." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
